Word on Synthetic Fertilizers

PARCHED, DRY SOIL, yields little plant life. But did you know that synthetically fertilized soil can be just as barren as a desert as far as nutrients are concerned?

More than 50 years ago the world was at war. Countries were fighting against each other using bombs dropped from airplanes to destroy what lay below. And what ws in those bombs? Nitrogen, phosphate, and potassium- the same three ingredients found in most modern fertilizers. While less explosive, synthetic fertilizers have been just as deadly to the soil as those bombs dropped from the sky years ago.

The 1992 Earth Summit in Brazil reported that soils worldwide were severely nutrient deficient. U.S. soil topped the charts with 85 percent of its essential nutrients and minerals depleted.
